It Works4
Fits good, looks good. Don’t mind keeping my 8820 in my pocket now without carrying another case. If there is a negative it’s a little slick and ain’t going to help much if you drop it.

Great product, as described…5
I didn’t think I would need a skin, but after just a few days the back of my 8800 had 2 scratches. I decided to try a skin for the first time. The skin fits great and has ‘Blackberry’ etched in the back. I really love the almost silky feel of the rubber, it makes the skin feel like it costs more than $10 and looks better too.

I agree with another reviewer; The fit is snug if you use the skin along with the original holster. It makes it a little tougher to slide in and out.

A bargain5
Same product that a friend bought from the Verizon Wireless store, but for half the price (including shipping costs). Still fits inside the holster, just a little snug. Too bad I didn’t get it before the first time that my bberry dropped on the floor.

Reviews:

Great GPS system5
I purchased this unit a few weeks ago after researching quite a few options. The navigation portion of the unit is outstanding. The screen is very bright. The 3D view is way cool. It takes only 30 seconds or so normally for the unit to acquire your location. It routes very well. Has loads of features. The screen is very readable. It autoshifts from daytime to nighttime view. Both look great. The voice comments are excellent. It comes with an MP3 player and a picture viewer also, but that is NOT why you would buy this unit. You would purchase it because it is a great navagation system. The mp3 and picture viewer are just little extras. They work just fine. The unit is very portable and can easily be switched between cars. It can also be used outside the car with its built in rechargable battery. The only complaint I have so far is that the windshield mount, while quite sturdy, still allows the unit to vibrate around a bit. Also, the manual is, as usual with some of these products, lacking in some important details. When mounting the unit, I would suggest you have the bottom of the mounting bracket touching your dashboard to reduce the vibration. This helped quite a bit. Lots and lots of points of interest built into the unit. It is incredibly easy to start using this unit. Take it out of the box and attach the windshild mount and off you go. Highly recommended as a GPS navitagion system. It is the same price as the Magellan 760, but with additional features. While it is more expensive than the Megallan 700, it has numerous additional features including 3D viewing and many more Points of Interest. I think it is worth the extra $$$$ for this.

RoadMate 800: Yes and No3
I bought this unit specifically to navigate around New England during a 10 day vacation. I agree that the display brightness is terrific, the voice queues are great, and the unit is easy to figure out without reference to documentation. The mounting bracket works well and holds fast. While it took several minutes to initialize in Southern California, when I turned the unit on in Boston it immediately updated. It’s wonderfull to have all the US (and more) in a handheld, battery operated device with 4.5 GB to spare.

This RoadMate takes some time (10 to 20 seconds) to detect a user course change and seems to get confused occasionally about what direction the vehicle is moving by asking for one U turn and then another to compensate. It annoyingly broke a 100+ mile stretch of I84 into multiple segments with instructions to “keep right” or “keep left” when all one needed to do was stay on the same road. I agree that it makes little sense have a built-in an MP3 player that cannot be used while the system is navigating.

Most annoying were errors in the database. The problem seems to be that there are lots of updated entries — along with the original entries. The very first place I tried was Legal Sea Foods, which I entered as Legal Seafoods. It gave me one location — in Florida. When I corrected the spelling, it gave me two addresses for the closest one: One right, one wrong. When I tried Jimmy’s of Savin Rock in CT, it gave me two identical street addresses, one in North Haven (wrong) and one in West Haven (right).

I couldn’t find any mechanism to return to a listing found in the address book without having to enter all the search data a second time. It would be nice if it queued the last few dozen search results.

I’m a little spoiled by the nav system in my Prius that always knows where the car is and almost instantly updates the route if I deviate from instruction.

On the third day of the trip, the unit hung up and I could never get it to run past the second splash screen despite reseting and even letting the batteries run down over night. I called the manufacturer and was connected to India Tech Support (very friendly, but totally useless). The unit is going back, but I might get another. The jury is out.

800 vs 7604
I have been doing a lot of research to decide between 760 and 800. It turns out that 800 comes with features that I cannot use while driving, such as MP3 and picture viewer. It does come with battery which I think is good to have.
The main difference that 760 has and 800 doesn’t is 760 announce the name of street that you turn into. This is a absolutely must have feature in my view. I bought 760 in Feb, 2006 and have been loving it ever since.

With 4.5 gigabytes of available internal memory, the Roadmate 800 will make sure you never run out of tunes. The Magellan Music Manager Tools software lets you simply transfer your .MP3 and .WMA files from your computer to the unit, or you have the option of inserting a Secure Digital (SD) or MMC card containing your digital files. Either way, you’ll have enough tunes to take you from L.A. to N.Y. and back. The Roadmate 800 lets you easily browse your music, create playlists (for MP3 files only), and adjust the sound to your personal liking with a digital equalizer. The Roadmate 800’s large 3.5-inch color display will also give you the resolution you need to enjoy your favorite digital photos. Simply transfer your files directly into the memory, or plug in your SD or MMC card, and sit back and enjoy.

Magellan Navigation
Of course, the RoadMate 800’s main purpose is to make sure you get to where you need to go. To get started, simply select a destination and your RoadMate 800 GPS navigation system will take it from there. By matching letters to the available destinations, Magellan’s QuickSpell address entry feature makes it easy and quick to enter destination addresses. An internal address book also stores up to 200 personal or business destinations for quick reference.

Advanced, state-of-art navigation software automatically calculates the most direct route and recalculates it whenever you take a detour or make additional stops. Routing options enable you to choose the best route for you, whether you want the shortest time or shortest distance, or whether you want to stay on or off the freeway. The RoadMate 800 lets you customize every trip exactly as you want. A unique SmartDetour feature will even automatically route around stopped freeway traffic.

Built-in detailed street maps and over six million pre-loaded points of interest make it easy to find the nearest restaurant, gas station, ATM, airport and more. A simple touch-screen menu lets you easily choose a location by category or sub-category. So if you want to find the nearest Chinese restaurant, or the nearest movie theater for the kids, just touch the screen. It has never been easier or more fun to get around town or take cross-country trips.

With detailed maps of all 50 United States, Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands and Canada, you can travel the continent with no need to download new data. A single seamless database built in to the hard drive contains all major city streets as well as federal, state and county roads and highways. And if traveling abroad is in your plans, this GPS system comes pre-loaded with detailed maps of 27 European countries that can be unlocked for a fee.

When you want a clearer view of your route, simply touch the 3D map icon. This will get both a three-dimensional representation, as well as a bird’s-eye view, allowing you to clearly see cross streets and helping you to prepare for upcoming turns. If that’s not enough, a turn-by-turn voice and visual guidance feature tells you exactly when to make the next turn, and to confirm the voice instructions, the automatic map zooms in to show your turn and switches to TrueView 3D so that you’ll be sure not to miss your turn. These automatic functions make the RoadMate 800 one of the most useful navigation aids you’ll ever experience.

If you’ve got a trip with multiple destinations lined up, the RoadMate 800 can optimize your travel plans. Use the Trip Planner feature to enter addresses or select points of interest (POI) before leave. You can choose the order of each destination, or you can let the Multi-destination Route Optimization system calculate the quickest route between each point from your present location. The feature also allows you to add and subtract destinations as you go, and you can save your trip to repeat the same route again.

When you’re traveling at night, the displayed map on the RoadMate 800 switches to night view at sundown, and back to day view in the morning. This means that you’ll always have a clear view of where you’re headed. With SmartVolume, the unit’s volume automatically increases at speeds over 45 MPH, which means that voice and audio prompts are always at the right level for maximum clarity.

Best of all, the RoadMate 800 is easy to install and is completely portable. You can choose from a selection of mounting accessories, and there’s no complicated wiring required. You simply plug in the power cord and you’re ready to go. A built-in rechargeable battery lets you take the unit where ever you need to go, and when you want to transfer it to another vehicle, you simply unplug it from one car and plug it into another. It’s that simple. At a mere 10.8 ounces in weight and 3.15 x 1.55 x 6.26-inches (W x D x L) in dimension, the RoadMate 800 is meant to be taken wherever your travel plans require.

Great deal5
you can not go wrong with this CD player I got it for my garage and it works great. it is not real fency but it sure does a great job and the shipping was fast, and the seller is great if anything is wrong. GREAT DEAL!!

Died within a year!2
This product had issues within a year of buying it. It started with only missing a section of a song at a time and ended with only playing a song or two before dying. I felt that it should have lasted a lot longer. Replaced it with a quality Yamaha player.

Easy wireless set up and great quality prints5
In this day of laptops, netbooks, and sophisticated phones, a network printer can simplify things greatly. With a wireless network already running in the house, we could add a wireless printer and put it where it most convenient for us rather than where there was a network connection. Enter the Brother HL-3070CW.

First a bit about printing technologies: Inkjets are cheaper to purchase, but the cost of ink cartridges is staggering over time. The HL-3070CW comes with a set of “starter” toner cartridges, rated for 1,000 pages each. Compare that to an inkjet, where ratings of 150 – 200 pages from a full set of carts are common. (Our Epson CX5800F is lucky to get 75 pages out of a set of cartridges, given the amount of ink we waste on clogged print heads.) The Brother toner cartridges cost more to replace, but you’ll be replacing them much less often. The replacement black toner cartridge is rated for 2,200 pages, and the replacement color cartridges are rated at 1,400 pages each. The printer’s drum units are also user-replaceable, and are rated for 15,000 sheets. By my calculations, assuming that we get half of the rated pages from the toner cartridges, we’ll have made up the cost difference between these technologies in less than a year. The Brother will be significantly cheaper to run over time, without the frustration of clogged printheads.

I bought the Brother HL-3070CW shortly after it was released. This was a bit of a leap of faith, given that there were no reviews available at the time. It took about 20 minutes to unbox the printer, set it up, and connect it to our (WPA-PSK secured) wireless network. It was a painless process from start to finish. The toner cartridges slot into the top of the printer easily, and the paper tray (250 sheets) slides in the bottom.

The LCD screen on the printer is very basic, but it’s easy to read, it includes a back light, and it does its job well. The menu system is very simple (one item at a time, scroll with the up and down keys), but the choices are easy to understand and the menu works exactly as expected. I’ve never had to read the operating manual that came with the printer. (Installation documentation is supplied on paper, but the operating manual is a pdf file on the included disc.)

Print quality has been excellent from the start. Characters are well-formed and easy to read, and graphic quality is very high with solid, vivid colors. Although not true photo quality, images are perfectly suitable for business purposes (brochures, presentations, etc.).

I’ve used paper from 20 to 32 pounds without incident with this printer. I have not had any paper jams, and the printer always picks up just one sheet of paper. The output tray on the top is rated to hold 100 sheets, and it looks like it could do that easily. The printer will handle legal sized sheets, although so far all of my printing has been on letter sized paper. There’s a manual feed slot for thicker media and envelopes, but I’ve not had a reason to try it yet.

The printer uses 10 watts while asleep, and wakes from sleep very quickly. It takes less than 20 seconds for the first page to print if the printer’s asleep when the document is sent. I’ve set my printer to go to sleep quickly, and have experienced no problems at all with it waking when documents are sent to it. The printer has also recovered gracefully from a power outage, including reconnecting to our wireless network automatically. It makes some noise when it feeds paper, but the noise level isn’t objectionable.

One other interesting feature: The printer includes a USB port that can be used with PictBridge cameras, or that can be used to print some document types (e.g., pdf, jpeg) directly from a thumb drive.

The Brother HL-3070CW is easy to set up, it uses little energy in standby mode, it feeds paper reliably, its consumable costs are reasonable, and it produces excellent quality output. I’m not sure what else one could ask for from a printer. I’m very happy with this unit, and have recommended it to others who have also had good experiences with it.

Great printer, and very cheap for networked color LED (laser) printer5
Very easy to configure, at least with my Mac, and using the plug-in Ethernet connection. Great color, and very crisp printouts, nearly laser quality output (it’s actually an LED printer, which uses a less-costly print technology than laser, but has the same basic laser-type toner cartridges). Even from an inch away the fonts look very crisp.

Toner cartridges are about $60 each. The starter cartridges are supposed to last 1000 pages but I’ve only had it a month so we’ll see how that goes. You get (essentially) laser quality output but for $350, color, USB, Ethernet and wireless interfaces built in – so it’s hard to beat. No problems at all to date, but as I say it’s still new.

Colors are very good, but if you’re looking to print photos it’s not going to look as good as a photo printer. Great for color images and charts/graphs in documents, though, and better color quality than my $99 Epson ink jet (non photo printer).

Setup on the USB and plug-in Ethernet network connection is quite easy, there’s a built in web interface in the printer that you login to. Had to download a driver from the Brother website but that was easy to do. Setting up the wireless interface looks like it would take 30 minutes or so, but the plug-in Ethernet setup only took ten minutes plus another ten to download the driver for my computer. Hardware setup (unpacking really, and inserting the four toner cartridges) was about 15 minutes.

Color Laser and Wireless Too……WoooooooooEEEEEEEE!5
Been thinking about replacing a Canon i560 color ink jet. Actually I think of it every time I have to buy replacement ink cartridges. Well, I was in Office Depot and getting ready to buy a $55 dollar package of cartridges (4 cartridges) and went over to look at the laser offerings. I really like lasers but wanted a color laser and REALLY wanted a wireless version. Was looking at the HP’s but they were $$ when I saw the Brother HL-3070CW. (*Technical note: the Brother is not actually a laser but uses LED technology. I came across this fact in a review site in the UK. They say that this technology might actually be more accurate than the laser technology. Hope I got that right.) It was everything I was looking for and more…it was Mac friendly! Office Depot was selling them on sale for $299 + tax. I put back my ink jet cartridges and went home and started searching the net for reviews. Well, it’s a pretty new printer so not a lot out there but places I read said that it was a good home solution. Went to Amazon and of course they had it and the reviews were good. Oh yes, Amazon’s price was $269 and free shipping ( it is free standard shipping but I took them up on their Prime trial membership so I would get it in 2 days…pretty sweet) and of course no tax. I figure I save about $50 by buying from Amazon and of course there is the $55 I saved by not buying replacement ink jet cartridges so my price came down to $219. Yeah, I know a bit of rationalization there but hey. Well, UPS came 2 days later and I was in business. First, the unit is very well packaged. Oh yeah it’s heavy too….49lbs I believe. Notes: it comes with “starter” cartridges. They get you going but don’t have as much toner as a replacement cartridge. Still I think they have a lot of life. Also, no usb cord if you are going to go that route but I bought it specifically for wireless so no biggie. It does come with an install disc that has both Windoze and Mac drivers along with the complete manual. The quick setup guide also includes directions for setting up in both environments. Hooray for Brother! I was excited about getting this thing up and running but after looking at the quick start guide reference to wireless setup I stopped and thought to myself, “eeeewwww, this may be harder than I thought”. Well, I did some “R&D” (that’s Research and Delay) but came back to it a day or so later when I had some time and the house was quiet. I followed the quick start guide and their recommended method of setting up the wireless connection…..ethernet connection (yes, you need your own ethernet cord as the unit does not come with one) from the Brother to your router and install through wireless computer (old G5 in my case). Directions were clear and was able to get up and running in very little time and the “first” time. I believe that other reviewers have said that this was not clear and/or a bit difficult. I had no problems you just have to know what kind of security you have on your router, and basically the password. If your router supports “AOSS”, “Wi-Fi Protected Setup”, or “Secure Easy Setup”, things are probably even easier. Installed the drivers on both my G5 and wife’s iBook and everything worked! This doesn’t happen to me very often so I was overjoyed. My wife is loving this printer. She’s out in the living room and hit’s “print” and the Brother wakes up and starts printing. Print speed is quite sufficient for our needs. Quality seems very good. We’ve only printed out documents with color printing and everything is very crisp. When you first install it you can print out a demo page that is just awesome! One thing you might want to remember is paper. Brother recommends laser paper that is 20-24lbs. Think I’m using some copy paper that is 20lbs and think my next purchase will be 24lbs paper. The unit holds 250 sheets in a paper tray below and has the ability to print envelopes and other stuff using a straight through path.
Lastly, everything I’ve read indicates that the cost of ownership of a laser is better than an ink jet so that’s a plus. Print quality is top notch. Wireless is the way to go…..happy happy. I’d heartily recommend this printer to friends and even family. GO FOR IT!
